Before / After

Description of the project

Here we are in my parents' garden, located in Brittany, France. You can see the first pond I made when I was twelve years old not knowing yet that I was discovering my passion.

My goal was to replace it ten years later with all the knowledge I’ve learned during those years, to show my dexterity, my determination, and my creativity in one project.

I also planned to realize this project to pursue one of my dreams, to go live and work in the United States of America, and be able to learn more about my passion.

As you can see, the garden looked tired and neglected from the last years as I was very busy between my professional life and my studies. The backyard was due for a refresh.

It was a symbol for me to realize this project where everything had started a few years ago. It was also the only place I found, where people believed in my ambition, but also practical because I had fewer constraints related to schedules or equipment, I had everything at my disposal and I could work as I wished.

Take a look at the 3D rendering

In this project, I wanted to design a small oasis and create a relaxing place to spend quality time with my family.

The goal was to create 3 major elements featuring a pool attached to a waterfall designed with fake rocks and surrounded by an environment with a Mediterranean atmosphere.

I wanted to graft as many elements as possible to this space, such as incorporating an infinity look to the pool as well as a vault with floating steps from one side to the other, facing the patio and the dining area.

I decided to add pebbles at the entrance of the pool to give a natural and beach kind of look and built a waterfall made of fake rocks for aesthetic to hide the pool equipment underneath. On the right side of the pool, I integrated a planter using real rocks retaining the dirt.

Additionally, I included a relaxing area with a hammock, green grass which will be perfect for sitting and relaxing.

In the back, I created another scene with more privacy featuring a BBQ and fire feature area, a small table with chairs, and a vegetable garden.

A shed was already existing at the back of the garden, and the idea was to transform it into a small outdoor kitchen with all the necessary appliances.

During the Construction

All the steps of construction were challenging. I had a minimum of knowledge in all the fields but for some, I had never practiced on the field.
I had to show patience and creativity for the realization of the fake rocks because there was no exact recipe for the preparation of the mixture as well as for the installation.

The installation of the reinforced PVC membrane (also called liner) was not easy, because despite having worked with this kind of material before, the rounded shape of the pool made it difficult to avoid wrinkles. For the rest, I had the necessary knowledge to make the project run smoothly, but I still had to be patient and sometimes ask for help from people that are in this field for several years.

I would have liked to improve some aesthetic and technical aspects at the end of the construction to finalize the project in detail, but time was counted because as soon as the pool was filled, I had to make the video editing and leave for the United States.

The final result

In my world, I call this project “The Climb” because I learned a lot throughout this project personally and professionally.

I had to manage my full-time job building pools for a company, which took lots of my energy and my free time so I could keep on building this project and make it come out of the ground. I accumulated a lot of fatigue and so many emotional ups and downs and had to deal with new challenges to solve quickly.

Of course, today I would have proceeded differently in the construction stages with other ways of doing things that I learned from my mistakes and researches during the realization.

I am proud of the final result and the way it looks. And it makes me even happier to see my relatives enjoying it. Thanks to this project, I achieved my goals and found a company in the USA.
